*I* figured that part out, and got out of the hole. I'm not arguing for myself - I was always going to go into STEM. I'm just saying you can't tell an entire generation to go follow their dreams, and them blame them when they do.
And for me, doing STEM was NOT the instant-big-bucks it was made out to be. I had to have my career languish for an entire decade because of decisions I didn't understand.
The very fact that *I'm one of the lucky ones* is what concerns me, and *ought* to concern you.
If you want to go moralize at the "smartest and most privileged", start with the fat bankers who are still laughing to the bank with a generation's worth of wealth. There would be no student loans without an entire financial sector that was more than happy to finance dreams they knew students couldn't ultimately afford, and then turned around and paid Congress to make it impossible for them to lose on all those bad bets.
If each and every Millennial is responsible for their own decisions, then each and every one of those bankers is responsible for THEIRs, and you should support abolishing the bankruptcy exemption for student loans. You don't get to pick and choose who personal responsibility applies to just because you think they're overprivileged and entitled. [ed: and whiny]
