Gut-Check: Why in the world do we still have a news media that reports rising home prices as “strong”? In any other sector, we call 30% price increases “HOLY FUCK ZOMG INFLATION KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT!!!”.
I’m just saying, the double-standard on housing prices is scandalous. We should be appalled that our media talks to us so nonchalantly about a crisis that’s actively hurting us so many of us.
Since the whole Ukraine thing is actively evolving, I’m just going to go ahead and talk about what I was going to talk about anyways, which is a bunch of stuff from the last several weeks about how competing powers think of each other.
First up is the Atlantic, who had a great point about how each power is always correcting for its last mistake, not looking at this new situation (Ukraine) as a new challenge.
Next is Tim Snyder’s Substack, which actually makes an honest attempt to look at Ukraine as a new challenge on its own terms.
Noah Smith had a good piece too, basically echoing the Atlantic.
Not much to say except… read those before you read anything else. As usual, there are a lot of really boring, uninformative, lazy narratives getting slung back and forth right now in the mainstream media. It’s easy to get caught up in those mind-bugs. Hopefully, this helps to inoculate yourself, and see what’s coming more clearly than all the screamers out there do.
